Family Planner is a private household planning application for a family's shared calendar, lists, chores, and allowance. It runs on a server in the family's own home and is used by the family members who sign in to it. This public website only provides project information and legal notices; it does not run the application, collect account data, or store calendar data.
1. Information the app accesses through Google
When a family member signs in with Google, the app requests:
-
Basic sign-in information (scopes
openid,userinfo.email,userinfo.profile): your Google account identifier, email address, and name, used to identify who is signed in. -
Google Calendar, read-only (scope
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly): the calendars you can access and their events, used to display the family's schedule on the household calendar.
The app does not create, change, or delete anything in your Google Calendar. It requests no other Google scopes.
2. How Google data is used
Google data is used only to sign you in and to show your calendar events inside the Family Planner application for you and your household. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to those features.
3. How Google data is stored and protected
- Encrypted tokens. Google OAuth access and refresh tokens are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM before they are saved. The encryption key is kept in the server's configuration, separate from the database.
- Server-side only. All requests to Google are made by the application's server. Tokens and client secrets are never sent to the browser.
- Your own server. Account records, tokens, and a cached copy of calendar events are stored in a database on the family's own server. They are not stored on this website or in a third-party cloud database.
- Access control. Only family members who have signed in can see the data. Sessions use signed, tamper-resistant cookies, and administrative functions require a separate password.
- Encrypted connections. Connections to Google use HTTPS. Remote access to the application is over an encrypted private network connection.
- No backups. We do not make backup copies of the database, so deleting your data removes it everywhere.
4. Data sharing
We do not sell Google user data, and we do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties. Google user data is not transferred to anyone except as described below:
- Optional AI assistant. The application includes an optional assistant powered by Anthropic's Claude. Only when a signed-in family member asks the assistant a question that needs calendar information does the app send the relevant event titles, times, locations, calendar names, and the name of the person the calendar belongs to, to Anthropic to produce the answer. Event descriptions, attendees, and Google tokens are never sent. This is not used to train AI models. If the assistant is not used, no calendar data is sent to Anthropic.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose data if required by law.
5. Data retention
Google account information, tokens, and cached calendar events are kept until you ask us to delete them. When you ask, we delete your stored tokens, account record, and cached calendar events from the database. There are no backup copies to purge. Revoking access in your Google Account stops the app from reading your calendar, but data already saved stays until you ask us to delete it.
6. Account and data deletion
- You can revoke the app's access at any time in your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- You can ask us to delete your account data by emailing blake.family.planner@gmail.com. We will delete it promptly after we verify the request.
7. Google API Services User Data Policy
Family Planner's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
In particular:
- Google user data is used only to provide and improve the user-facing calendar features described above.
- It is not transferred to others except to provide those features, to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger or sale with notice to users.
- It is not used for serving advertisements.
- Humans do not read it, unless you give consent for specific data, it is needed for security or abuse investigation, or the law requires it.
- It is not used to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or machine-learning models.
8. Children
The application is used by a family, including children, under the supervision of the parents who run it. Children do not sign in with Google accounts of their own; they use a family passcode on shared devices. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this website.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
